Fact: We all have an ego. At least the vast majority of us. So how does this manifest itself, and affect our training?
Typically ego is portrayed as a negative thing. But it can also be one of our drivers for change, refusing to let our sense of self to be humiliated by failure.
In the negative sense, it can blind us to our weaknesses. We see something we are good at, we enjoy it, makes us feel good about ourselves, so we keep going in that direction.
This was can lead to sub-optimum results when it comes to training. Leading us down a path to out of proportion physiques, neglected technical skills, for example.
By tempering our ego, with cruel honesty with ourselves, we are able to critically analyse our weaknesses and turn them into strengths.
