What do we mean by “Feel”? That elusive factor, which everyone knows the best of the best have e.g. Ayrton Senna/Lewis Hamilton, Lionel Messi, Roger Federer.
I am sure that nearly everyone would agree, that these examples have exceptional “feel” in there respective fields.
But this is something that we can all develop! It is not only for the naturally gifted. For sure, some will be able to develop it faster than others, but we can all do it!
Where does this Sensitivity come from?
Ultimately the “feel” is based on a sensitivity to the neuro-muscular signals to and from the brain. The methodology to develop this is a core part of the MBC Training method, and embedded into the training protocol.
What we do with it; how we adjust our inputs etc. is of course another story. That is amassed through practise, storing mental database of actions and approriate reactions.
Why is this useful?
You may well be thinking, “so what?” This is for professionals, or serious/semi-pro sports people.
I have given a some reasons below. Each can probably in itself become a bog post, so I will not into each one here!!
- Transferability across disciplines (even for non-natural athletes!)
- Improved correction of technique (for example if you are paying for 1:1 tennis lessons, you will optimise your $/improvement ratio!)
- Optimised results from physical training
- Better injury prevention
- Increased effectiveness from therapy
- Contributes to better functioning nervous system as we age
Conclusions
Hopefully with this brief intro it is clear, the great benefits that can be obtained. Also, not only for performance, but including the larger holistic health topic, especially as we age.
Of course, like with anything, some people do progress quicker than others. But unless there is a clinical reason, ahletic sensitivity and feel can be learnt by anyone.
